The World’s Wackiest Reasons for Divorce

Couples file for divorce citing a variety of reasons, from serious offenses to kooky and absurd infractions. Read on to discover some of the craziest reasons people want to get divorced.

50 Shades of Grey

A couple in London, England cited the 2012 bestseller in their divorce papers. The wife claimed her libido drastically increased after reading the raunchy novel, but her husband thwarted her advances claiming she was only interested in him because of the book. She filed for divorce shortly thereafter.

"Let them (not) eat cake!"

Cheung Yu claims his wife, Tian Mae, has forced him to eat cake for every meal over the course of their marriage. Yu, 31, has been quoted as saying, "Egg cake, fruit cake, chocolate cake. I felt like a bakery dustbin" in reference to his wife's excessive baking. He threatened Mae, 27, with divorce if she didn't stop baking.

Plastic Surgery

A husband in China was shocked to learn that his wife had undergone $100,000 worth of plastic surgery before the two met. Feng Jian's wife (name withheld) gave birth to an "incredibly ugly" daughter. Jian became suspicious of his wife's fidelity and ordered a paternity test. The tests revealed that the newborn girl was indeed his child. It was only after the results came to light that his wife confessed to having extreme amounts of plastic surgery before the two met. Jian was so taken aback and disgusted that he divorced his wife, and a judge awarded him a $120,000 compensation.

Going Commando

Romanian woman Emese Nagy reportedly filed for divorce from her husband of one year, Tamas, because he didn't like to wear underwear. Nagy claims that she was not aware of his preference to not wear any underwear, and she did not like the attention other women started to show him after they became aware of this. Tamas said he loves his wife, but could not bring himself to wear something that made him "feel very uncomfortable."

Extreme Gaming

Jocelyn, a 28 year old California resident and gamer, purchased her husband, Peter, the World of Warcraft game as a Christmas gift in 2004. It took only nine months for the game to completely overtake Peter's life, and the six year marriage to come to an end. During an interview with Yahoo! Games, Jocelyn was quoted as saying that "(World of Warcraft) took away all of our time that we spent together. I ceased to exist in his life." The two divorced, but remained friends.

Threes a Crowd

Italian families are known for being extremely close and a big part of each other's lives, but one groom took it too far when he invited his mother on his honeymoon. There was already tension between Stefano and Marianna because the groom's mother lived next door to the couple, but Marianna reached her breaking point after her new husband brought his mother on their Paris honeymoon. Stefano claimed he couldn't leave his elderly mother in Italy because she was ill, but it was too late. Marianna filed for divorce a month after their wedding.
